I’ve got my own OpenID!
I now have my own OpenID (”eric.wahlforss.com”) that I can use to login to a bunch of sites–without having to type neither my email address nor my password anywhere! Combined with the new Sxipper Firefox plugin, we get a very clear hint at where identity management on the web is going in the (hopefully) near future. And it’s actually very easy to do this yourself! Just put this in the <head> section of your blog:
<link rel="openid.server" href="http://openid.sxipper.com/op" />
<link rel="openid.delegate" href="http://yourusername.sxipper.com/" />
And then sign up for an OpenID account with Sxipper or any other identity provider of your liking. You need to sign up with the same username as you use in the link tag above. Voila, you’ve rolled your own OpenID that you can use to log on to all sites that support it (which, at this point, isn’t that many. But more sites are reportedly in the pipeline!)
