SoundCloud + Creative Commons = True

I’ve been too busy to even blog about the fact that SoundCloud no longer is an invite-only site. It’s fully open since last Friday, and if you’ve got anything to do with music you should really go and check it out. It will make your life easier.

Since Friday we’ve been in a whirlwind of sorts, trying to keep up with the masses of emails that keep pouring in from excited musicians (there are so many of you!) who finally have a decent place to receive, send and distribute their music.

Monday we launched a new Facebook app which takes advantage of the new Facebook design. Needless to say, it’s mega-viral.

And today we’re on the front page of creativecommons.org with our just-launched CC licensing support for SoundCloud! Our team took great care in getting the implementation and the UI right. And the result is really, really slick. In fact, I think SoundCloud has the potential of becoming the place for CC-licensed music and audio on the web. We will work hard for it.

This also means I could finally change the license for my own track Paradigm Shift, featuring a sample from a random internet stream where Lawrence Lessig speaks about Creative Commons, into an Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike CC license (only had it in the description earlier). Go ahead and remix it. There are already plenty of really nice mixes to check out.

And we don’t stop. Tomorrow BarCamp Berlin starts. We sponsor it and Alex, Henrik and I will be there building apps on top of our API and talking about audio on the web. And next week we have Web 2.0 expo (we present on Tuesday, and organize a party on Wednesday). In fact there’s a whole web week with tons of stuff going on!

Very much looking forward, and hope to see you there!
